Why Do We Yawn?
How many times did you yawn in the last hour?
Do you remember?
Research showed that we probably yawn about 10 times an hour.
This means we yawn even when we are not sleepy.
Then why do we yawn?
As you know, oxygen is very important for our body to function.
If there is too much carbon dioxide inside our body, it means that there is no enough room for oxygen.
So, we yawn to let out more carbon dioxide than usual.
In the process, we take in more oxygen than usual as well.
Also, if the temperature of the brain gets too hot, yawning can control the temperature.
In short, if you yawn more than usual, it can be a sign: your body is telling you to get some rest.
Open the window for fresh air or take a walk to cool off.
