Suffrage is the right of people to vote.
Though it has become one of the most important civil rights, suffrage was not given to all people equally in the past.
As democracy emerged after the civil revolution, the right of suffrage began to be given to all the people, but women were not given suffrage.
After a long struggle, voting rights were equally given to men and women in the United States in 1920, and in England in 1928, starting with New Zealand in 1893.
