Waking Up from Hibernation
Certain animals hibernate to survive the cold winter months.
They include bears, bats, squirrels, hedgehogs and snakes.
Since the energy source is scarce in the winter, they try to conserve energy as much as possible.
They enter a sleep-like state and their metabolic rate slow down.
When the metabolic change takes place, their heart rates and breathing rates slow down and their body temperature also drops.
When it gets warm, the hibernating animals start to emerge themselves.
Each animal has its own way of adapting to the new environment after waking up from hibernation.
For example, it takes some time for bears to gear up their metabolism to normal level.
They stay lethargic for few weeks and they slowly regain their energy after hibernation.
Bees get back to work right as soon as they wake up from hibernation.
They begin to gather pollen from the blooming flowers.
