How to Keep Plants Healthy
Every year, on May 12th, people around the world observe the International Day of Plant Health.
This special day was created by the UN to focus attention on the importance of protecting the health of our world's plants.
According to the organization's Web site, up to 40% of the world's food crops are ruined by pests, and plant diseases.
These losses, in turn, cause money losses for farmers and make our food supply less secure.
Fortunately, we can take action to keep plants healthy.
For starters, make sure the plants around your home get a proper amount of water and sunlight so they can grow well.
If you ever see unhealthy-looking trees or plants, report your sightings to a forestry department.
Importantly, you should never bring plants from overseas because they can carry foreign pests and diseases.
Instead, buy new plants from a trusted business and ask their staff for growing advice.
