Is Autumn Good for the Economy
Autumn is famous for being the season when tree leaves change into bright red, orange, and yellow colors.
Some of the most brilliant views of fall foliage are on display in the six New England* states of the U.S., where millions of “leaf peeping” tourists visit to view the colorful scenery.
This, in turn, gives the region a big economic boost.
According to officials, “leaf peeping” tourism adds at least $3 billion to New England’s economy every fall.
This is because visitors spend money not only on tours, but also in hotels, restaurants, and other businesses.
In Maine, a “top” state for leaf-peeping, the foliage season is especially noted for its bright red maple leaves.
In Vermont, over one million people visit in October alone to marvel at the changing colors as well as enjoy outdoor activities.
Although climate change may affect foliage seasons in the future, for now leaf-peeping tours are more popular than ever.
